BDO Charity Day
BDO Raffles was proud to support the Children’s Charities Association (CCA) in their 2009 Christmas fundraising efforts with an iconic and
hearty walkathon along Orchard Rd, Singapore's famous shopping belt. A firm-wide walkathon hand-in-hand with special needs children was an
experience for many members of our staff to remember.
As early as 8AM on the morning of 21 November, the great expanse of Civic Plaza at Ngee Ann City, itself a prominent landmark of Orchard Rd,
was crowded with participants and caregivers alike. Together with the special needs children from various charity organisations, we were ready
to take on this 2km walk set against the backdrop of bustling Orchard Rd. Participants young and old were enthused to hold the hands of the
children and walk with them, reminding them that they are not alone in the walk of life.
For many of those taking part in their first public charity event on such a large scale, this walk was certainly a memorable one. Staff of
BDO Raffles and their family members enjoyed the companionship and time spent bonding with these children.
The walkathon attracted a thousand participants from all walks of life. Guest-of-Honour at the event was Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, Minister of
Community Development, Youth & Sport. Among the numerous corporate participants this year, BDO's very own Managing Partner Frankie Chia received
a token of appreciation presented by the Minister in recognition of the firm's contribution toward the success of the event.
For those of us lucky ones without special needs, this event reminded us of the many challenges some of our peers in society face and the
unwavering spirit it takes to overcome them.
